LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

FORTH GENERATION IN AMERICA

253. JOSIAH 4 DUNHAM (Eleazer 3 Joseph 2 John 1) born in Plymouth, Plymouth County, MA in June 1694, [1] died before March 1740/1 as he is not listed on the support agreement for his mother Bathsheba Dunham. [2] Josiah married in Plymouth 2 February 1715/16 RUTH KEMPTON, [3] daughter of Ephraim and Mary (Reeves) Kempton. [4]

There are several Plymouth County Land Records for Josiah Dunham, the last one in 1729.[5]

From Mayflower Descendant Vol. 54, No. 1 Winter 2005, p. 48-50; The Possible Identity of Widow Hannah Holmes, Third Wife of Joshua Newcomb, by Jane Fletcher Fiske: The article postulates that Hannah (Dunham) (Holmes) was the third wife of Joshua Newcomb. Joshua Newcomb, son of Andrew and Mercy (Oldham) Newcomb, was born in Truro 17 June 1712 [VR of Truro] and died about 1749, supposedly killed by a ship’s mast falling on him. Joshua married first Eunice Bullard; second Elizabeth Dollins in 1737/8; and third, 2 Oct. 1738 at Plymouth Widow Hannah Holmes.
Joshua and Hannah had three children recorded at Plymouth:
i.Ruth Newcomb
ii.Joseph Newcomb
iii.Sarah Newcomb
iii. Charles 5 Dunham b. 11 May 1721, d. about 20 June 1721
iv. Ruth 5 Dunham b. 25 June 1722 (no further information found)
v. Lydia 5 Dunham b. 8 February 1724/5
Lydia married in Plymouth 8 February 1725/6 Jacob Tinkham, [7] son of Jacob and Hannah (Cobb) Tinkham, and a descendant of Mayflower pilgrim Peter Brown.

Mary married in Bridgewater, MA 16 Nov. 1756 Josiah Hayward, Jr. [9] son of Josiah and Sarah (Kingsley) Hayward and a descendant of Mayflower pilgrim Francis Cooke. [10] Josiah was born in Bridgewater 13 April 1717; d. in Bridgewater 15 Oct. 1773. [11]
