History of Ancient Wethersfield, p. 404; A Muster Roll of Capt. Eliphalet Whittelsey’s Co. 1758, a Matthew Dunham enlisted 7 April as Pvt., Discharged Oct. 1758. This Matthew would probably have been born in the 1730s.

Also, there are numerous deeds in Tyringham, Berkshire Co. Ma. which are probably for this Matthew 5 Dunham.

Also, data from a manuscript on file at the New England Historical and Genealogical Society in Boston, dated 1947-1957, and written by Gertrude Evengeline Dunham Miller, of Lake Bluff Illinois gives line of descent from Matthew Dunham. I believe that line is from this Matthew 5, son of Hezekiah 4 and Jane Pease. (dau. of Matthew Pease)

The ancestry of Matthew Dunham, b. about 1758, has been the subject of research for a long time. Apparently Gertrude Evangeline Miller Dunham was never able to trace the line any further back than Matthew Dunham. In 2002 Russell Howard Dunham participated in DNA analysis and it was learned that he was a direct descendant of Deacon John Dunham. Therefore, the search for the ancestors of Matthew, a proven ancestor of Russell Howard Dunham, has been renewed.

Research was done by Gratia Dunham Mahony in 2002. The research indicating the line of Matthew Dunham is based on circumstantial evidence.
