LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

FIFTH GENERATION IN AMERICA

John-5 Dunham (David-4 Gershom-3 Jonathan-2 John-1) born say 1729; died 17 July 1784. He married JANE BUTLER, daughter of David Butler and Anna Hatch. She was b. 10 May 1728; died in Tisbury, MA 16 Dec. 1791, in her 65th year. John Dunham served in French and Indi an War in 1748. David Butler, his father-in-law was Captain of an Indian Company during the French and Indian War in 1762.

The will of John-5 Dunham, dated 1784 (Dukes County Will, Vol. &:80-81) states:

“I give to my 3 younger sons, namely Abishai Dunham, Lawson Dunham, Clifford Dunham, all my real estate ‘that they maintain their mother honorable during her natural life’…I give to my loving daughter Jane Merry, wife of Peter Merry…best bed…”
