LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

FIFTH GENERATION IN AMERICA

328. SAMUEL-5 DUNHAM b. 1711,[1] died between 22 February 1792 and 8 June 1793, the dates of his will and probate.[2] He married WAITSTILL LORD, daughter of Ephraim Lord (and possibly wife Mary Dunham),[3]. She was born in Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY abt. 1722, died in Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY, 5 March 1784, age 62 years. She is buried in the Old Amenia Burying Ground, Amenia.[4]

The Early Settlers of NY State lists burials in the Old Cemetery of Amenia. This is located about a mile northeast of the present village. The Church Society to which it belonged was called “Carmel in the Nine Partners”, the building went by the name of the “Red Meeting House”. The land for both was donated by Stephen Hopkins. On list of burials is Waitstill Lord, wife of Capt. Samuel Dunham, 5 Mar. 1784, age 62 yrs.[5]

Res. Dutchess Co. N.Y. Prob. the Samuel-5 on list of “Signers of Association 1775”, (who refused to sign) Amenia Precinct, Dutchess Co. NY which gives list of men in Capt. Samuel Dunham’s Company, for the alarm to relieve Fort Wm. Henry August 1757.[6]

“To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I Samuel Dunham of Amenia Dutchess County in the State of New York Do this twenty second day of February in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner following that is I say first
I give daughter Waitstill twenty five pounds
Also I give to my daughter Silva twenty five pounds
Also I give to my daughter Salome twenty five pounds
Also to my daughter Mary I give ( ) pounds
And to my son Samuel I give five shillings
And to my son Jonathan I give five shillings
And to my son Seth I give five shillings
And to my son John I give five shillings
And to my son William I give five shillings
And to my daughter Sarah I give five shillings and the remainder goods, chattles and personal estate what so ever
I give to my children to be equally divided among them in witness whereof I the said Samuel Dunham have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this day and year above written.
