LINE OF DEACON JOHN DUNHAM OF PLYMOUTH

FIFTH GENERATION IN AMERICA

The Dunhams of Plattsburg, New York (Deacon John-1, Joseph-2,3, Josiah-4 Dunham) by Gratia Dunham Mahoney from the DGRA Newsletter: Vol. 11, issue 1, January 2014 p.18-20

415. WILLIAM-5 DUNHAM (Josiah-4, Joseph-3,2, Deacon John-1) born in Attleboro, Bristol County Massachusetts 15 March 1749/50, died in Hartford, Windsor Co. VT after 1821.
Children of William-5 Dunham and unknown first wife who d. abt. 1780 in VT: (Note: the surname of this first unknown wife may have been Morgan.)
i. CHARLES (MORGAN?)-6 DUNHAM b. abt. 1770, Hartford, Windsor Co. Vt. (Continues below)
ii. William-6 Dunham b. abt. 1775, Hartford, Windsor Co. Vt.

William-5 married second about 1780 Rebecca Crane.
Children of William-5 Dunham and Rebecca Crane:
iii. Philena Pamelia-6 Dunham b. 10 February 1781 West Woodstock, Windsor Co., VT
iv. Dan-6 Dunham b. about 1782
v. Rebecca-6 Dunham b. Dec. 1784 Woodstock, Windsor Co. VT
vi. Bethiah-6 Dunham b. 25 February 1785 Hartford, Windsor Co. VT
vii. Guy-6 Dunham b. 1795 Hartford, Windsor Co. VT
viii. Josiah-6 Dunham b. abt. 1790

SIXTH GENERATION
CHARLES-6 (MORGAN) DUNHAM b. abt. 1770, Hartford, Windsor Co., Vt.
The name Charles Morgan Dunham as given in the Brockville records may indicate that his mother’s surname was Morgan. Proof of this has not been found.
From 1800 Census of Plattsburgh, Clinton Co. NY p. 70;
Charles-6 Dunham family would be:
4 m. under 10
1 m. 26-45
1 f. under 10
1 f. 10-16
1 f. 26-45
In my research notes I say “I don’t find this Charles in the 1810 census in Plattsburg. Possibly he went north into Canada.” From the research in the Brockville records I believe that this Charles-6 did go north to Canada and he is the Charles Morgan Dunham who has a son named

William Morgan-7 Dunham as above. So, one of these male children under 10 in the 1800 census would be William Morgan-7 Dunham born 10 March 1797 in Plattsburg, Clinton Co., New York.

SEVENTH GENERATION

Now if we look at the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records from Brockville, Leeds Co., Ontario (given above) we find Charles M. Dunham with a birth year of 1746-7. This is the Charles Morgan-7 Dunham who married Hannah Elliott and had the following children:
i. Lester-8 Dunham b. 1872
ii. Elsworth-8 Dunham b. 1875 (Claude Elsworth)
iii. Charles D.-8 Dunham b. July 1876
iv. Chester William-8 Dunham b. 1890; d. 21 Nov. 1936 in Ontario, Canada
