328. SAMUEL-5 DUNHAM b. 1711,[1] died between 22 February 1792 and 8 June 1793, the dates of his will and probate.[2] He married WAITSTILL LORD, [3] daughter of Ephraim Lord (and possibly wife Mary Dunham), (CHECK Lord Gen. to see Ephraim’s wife). She was born in Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY abt. 1722, died in Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY, 5 March 1784, age 62 years. She is buried in the Old Amenia Burying Ground, Amenia.[4] The Early Settlers of NY State lists burials in the Old Cemetery of Amenia. This is located about a mile northeast of the present village. The Church Society to which it belonged was called “Carmel in the Nine Partners”, the building went by the name of the “Red Meeting House”. The land for both was donated by Stephen Hopkins. On list of burials is Waitstill Lord, wife of Capt. Samuel Dunham, 5 Mar. 1784, age 62 yrs.[5] Res. Dutchess Co. N.Y. Prob. the Samuel-5 on list of “Signers of Association 1775”, (who refused to sign) Amenia Precinct, Dutchess Co. NY which gives list of men in Capt. Samuel Dunham’s Company, for the alarm to relieve Fort Wm. Henry August 1757.[6]
He resided in Dutchess County New York and is on the Nine Partners Tax Lists for, June 1747-48, also 1753-62, and 1762-78. From Dutchess Co. NY Tax Lists 1718-1787 by C. M. Cortlandt and John Cozine Jr. Photocopy of Deed reads. . .for sum of 220 £ paid by Samuel Dunham. . .confirm unto the said Samuel Dunham in his actual possession being of the premises hereby bargained and sold by virtue of a bargain sale and lease for one year to him there of made by indenture bearing date the day next before the day of the date of these presents . . .parcel of land situate lying and being in the oblong in the County of Dutchess aforesaid being part of lot number fifty seven, and bounded as follows (to witt) beginning at the south east corner of said lott at a heap of stones from thence running west twelve degrees and thirty minutes, north by the land of Oliver Crocker and John Adams Jr. until it comes to the land of Isaac Lamb from thence running north twelve degrees and thirty minutes East to the highway that runs west by the House of Isaac Lamb from thence running easterly abutting on the north by the Land of Elias Shavalier, to the East line of the lot before mentioned, from thence south twelve degrees and thirty minutes west to the bounds first mentioned, being the south east corner of said lot number fifty seven, containing seventy seven acres. . .
