49. BENAJAH 3 DUNHAM (Joseph 2 John1), baptized in Plymouth 1684; died in Tisbury, Dukes County, Massachusetts 8 December 1766. Benajah married probably in Edgartown 7 May 1708 SARAH COVEL, daughter of Philip and Elizabeth (Atwood) Covel. They were married by Pastor Jonathan Dunham who was an uncle of Benajah. Sarah Covel was born in Edgartown in 1693; died there 16 August 1778.
Benajah came to Edgartown about 1708. He was Master of the House of Correction in 1731. He is buried at Tower Hill Cemetery in Edgartown.
By the will of his father, Joseph 2 Dunham, Benajah and his younger brother Daniel got 40 acres of land in Plympton that “I now live on which is my homestead” to be divided between them. Benajah sold this land to William Canady in 1708.
